Axión Technology for Remote Management Applied to Energy Efficiency and Sustainability

Axión deploys Lights-on in Alcalá la Real (Jaén), its smart lighting solution for monitoring and controlling the energy efficiency of the city’s public lighting system.

This is an innovative project for Alcalá la Real Town Council, involving an investment of 2 million euros, and forms part of the energy-saving, environmental protection and energy efficiency measures established by the council. Axión has designed and implemented the platform that controls and monitors the smart LED lighting installed in the town and its surrounding districts, replacing the existing system.

To this end, Axión has also set up the control system for 3,069 luminaires and installed the remote management system at the 78 control centres located throughout the town.

This project brings a twofold benefit to the public, as, in addition to representing a step forward in terms of sustainability – reducing estimated CO₂ emissions by 69.7% – it achieves greater savings on electricity costs, with a calculated reduction in power consumption of 66.3%.

Nagán, Axión’s platform, helps to achieve these benefits by applying, within the control panel that has been implemented, policies for switching devices on and off in accordance with the timings set by the astronomical clock. It also provides data and alerts on energy consumption, enabling the detection of any anomalies in the supply and potential deviations.

This system also provides the local authority with a LoRaWAN network that will enable the future connectivity of other devices, meters or street furniture, utilising the same infrastructure and minimising the roll-out costs for each new project.

This initiative is 80%co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the 2014–2020 Operational Programme for Sustainable Growth, specifically the ‘Singular Projects by Local Authorities Promoting the Transition to a Low-Carbon Economy’ scheme, promoted by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE).
