Araceli García Cuartango, new chief executive of Axión and Lineox

21 February 2022

Jorge Alberto Jiménez hands over the reins at Axión to Araceli García Cuartango, who will become CEO of both Axión and Lineox, the latter of which also belongs to the investment group Asterion Industrial Partners (AIP).

From this month, Jorge Alberto Jiménez is handing over the reins of the chief executive role at Axión to Araceli García Cuartango, a telecommunications engineer with extensive experience in senior management positions within the sector.  García Cuartango will also serve as CEO of Lineox, with Javier Dorado Lobera as its managing director.

This appointment will enable Axión and Lineox to provide an integrated offering to customers, jointly developing new business, improving economies of scale and strengthening their position to capitalise more efficiently on the growth opportunities offered by the dynamic Spanish telecommunications market. In turn, it will enable the group to maintain and strengthen what has long been one of its hallmarks: its commitment to ESG policies and initiatives, leading Axión and Lineox to remain leaders in ESG management within the sector and to generate a sustainable and positive social and environmental impact for society as a whole.

Jorge Alberto Jiménez has led the Axión Group for the past 20 years, driving the development and transformation that have made it a benchmark in the sector.  In addition to the company’s successful track record since 1999 in its now-established business lines of radio and television signal transmission, Axión has been incorporating new developments such as the deployment and operation of emergency networks (‘blue light services’), as well as the provision of IoT services.

Since 2018, Axión has also expanded into wholesale fibre-optic signal transmission through Axent, a joint venture with Enagás.  Also in this recent period, Iberia Small Cells Networks (ISC) was launched – a partnership between Axión and the British Wireless Infrastructure Group (WIG) to provide coverage solutions for environments with extremely high density. Jorge Alberto Jiménez will remain associated with the Axión Group, providing consultancy in various areas.

Since the start of 2021, Lineox, which owns a portfolio of 11,000 radio links across Spain, had already begun an intensive process of synergies and collaboration between the two companies alongside Axión.

Araceli García Cuartango holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. She has extensive experience in technology management and transformation projects, with over 25 years’ experience in executive roles at multinationals such as Vodafone, Telefónica and IAG.

Commenting on the new professional chapter he is now embarking upon, Jorge Alberto Jiménez said: “These 20 years at the helm of Axión have been, on a personal level, a fantastic adventure, during which I have been fortunate to have the best team: capable, highly dedicated and always motivated (…). This has enabled us to build the great company that today makes up the Axión Group.”

For her part, Araceli García Cuartango commented: “I am delighted to be returning to the telecoms sector, a broad and dynamic technology-driven industry with significant market opportunities. It is a privilege to take over from Jorge Alberto, who is handing over a well-managed and agile company with a highly professional team. Together with Lineox, we have an exciting growth project ahead of us in the telecoms infrastructure market, always underpinned by excellent service to our customers.”
